Recently a few people have been curious as to why we have a free event running all of a sudden. These were posed by Synergie on our Forums

You are correct - the North Sydney ANZAC Club is now amalgamating (combining) with the Kirribilli club, and the current premises closes its doors for good on the 15th. That means we have this one last hurrah and that's it, no more venue! :(

2. Secondly, can the SOGC afford this LAN, without blowing the bank?

Yes we can. While we state we don't compete with other LANs due to financial resources, we aren't in such a bad state. The SOGC has its own model of business that makes things somewhat sustainable. We'll be hurting from this event, but we're in this for the love of LANning, not to make as much money as possible from you guys.

3. Finally, the reason why its free, is it because the advertised LAN fell through and you felt you owed it to us to give us free entry?

In part, yes. We'll still be going back to the Carriageworks - it's a great venue, and we have a good relationship with them! We are (as we mentioned many times) working on things that will only be good for the SOGC community- unfortunately these didn't pull through in time, they're still in the works, and they'll still go ahead - just not in time for August7. So instead of cancelling or postponing the event, we're giving you guys one last hurrah at the North Sydney event, as well as a big thank you!

WELL! :D I hope these all helped you guys understand what we're doing - we're providing a free event because you guys have given us the support over the last two years that have made this great community possible! Without your constant support, and assistance, we wouldn't be around! So thank you, all of you - we hope you come along, bring all your friends, help us get huge numbers in for our free event and say goodbye to a great venue!

We can afford this event for exactly the same reason as the paragraph above. Your awesome support! So don't worry, the SOGC will still be around, we're not going bankrupt haha!

There will be full support for matchmaking in Modern Warfare 2 - you should all be able to login and 'work it' nicely :) I expect to see some great matches going on around the place :)

In fact, we'd love it if someone wanted to volunteer as the games admin for Modern Warfare 2! Your roles would involve hooking everyone up into decent matches, you'd need to have a pretty darn fast PC, and organising everyone so that we all have a good time!

Future duties may involve organising game nights for our community, and competitions both at LANs and online!

Go Go Go!

We experienced some complications with organisation for August7, and a number of factors have led us to pretty much cancel the event until we can sort ourselves out. As such we've had to reschedule our Sexy LAN Party - instead we're working on holding a COMPLETELY FREE NO-STRINGS-ATTACHED EVENT for you guys to attend!

We hope you'll all appreciate it and show your support by rocking up to our old venue for some good ol' fun times!
